We were at Aaron's parents' house a few days before Scotty's birthday, and we celebrated his and cousin Lucy's birthdays together. There was a very fancy basketball cake with a backboard and everything which Grandma Dennis envisioned and executed. Scotty loved it, and I failed to take a picture. Our basketball cake was less inspiring. The kids helped me decorate it--hence the frosting on their faces before we've cut the cake.
Scotty is an awesome kid. He is an observer. It takes him quite a while to warm up to a new person/idea/thing. New shoes, nursery leaders, an unfamiliar park all have to go through a sometimes lengthy adjustment period. To me, this seems like a pretty intelligent way to go about life. He misses out sometimes, but being careful and cautious before giving his full commitment is a quality that, if not taken to the extreme, will serve him well. Scotty really loves basketball. That seems to be a core part of his identity. Everyday, he wants to wear a "basketball shirt" which means any t-shirt. If he's in his "basketball shirt" he feels ready to face the world. G&G Dennis got him a basketball that is the perfect size for his little hands. He can really dribble that thing. Lately, he has enjoyed "doing school" with me and Annie. He gets a kick out of counting and finding letters he knows. My favorite part of the day with Scotty is when he wakes up in the morning. He is so happy and talkative. He jabbers non-stop, like he's been storing up all night long the things he wants to tell me.

We love you Scotty!
He is such a darling 3 year old. And for sure the sign of a great cake is....frosting on the faces!
