Scotty's Birthday

Our little man is 2 years old. This guy has such an interesting personality. He is snuggly and clingy and sensitive to tastes and temperatures and sounds and feelings. But he can also be the biggest jokester. He loves to ham it up and then say, "Funny!"

I made muffins for breakfast, but when I went to bake them we found out the oven wasn't working. Aaron tried a few things and got it working. I think the trick was cleaning dust off the heating elements.

We ate muffins and gave Scotty a basketball hoop! He's really into that. Later we had a basketball cake and more presents.

There was something magical about the carrot cake cooked in a bowl. It was so dense and moist and delicious. We might be having more basketball cakes in the future. 

Biggest Tent Ever!

I'm just going to say that we've been having some pretty awesome FHE activities. One week we built the biggest tent ever and even ate our treats in it.

The Theater

Several months ago we went to see the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat that my mom directed for our community theater. She has been involved in theater for many years, and it is sometimes a challenge to get people involved. This year only a handful of people showed up for auditions. But my mom and other arts council members eventually scared up over 50 people to be in the show. And it was so much fun!

Shortly after seeing this show, we made a puppet theater for a family home evening activity. When Annie first showed it to Ben, I saw the same struggle my mom had with her community theater re-enacted.

 Annie says, "Look! Theater! It's fun. You should try it."

 Ben says, "No, I want to play basketball."

 Annie employs various methods of coercion, and Ben finally agrees to give it a go.

And it's fun! Right, Ben?

I'm really proud of my mom for working hard to bring some variety and culture to our little hometown. Thanks, Mom, for giving me a lifelong love of theater. I'm doing my best to pass it on.
