Prom People, Co-op Camping, Boy Birthday, and Shakespeare Show

Annie was asked to prom by a person she'd never met. People asked who she was going with, and she'd answer, "Corban from Dallas." One person responded, "That sounds made up." It was not made up. Corban turned out to be a real boy. And he really was from Dallas. He was the cousin of our old homeschool pal, Kimball. Kimball went with Attalyn. It was a good time.

Corban asked Annie with a poster that had Stormlight Archive references. Annie responded with an epic Shallan-themed video.

Corban from Dallas was tall. 6'7" to be exact. And Annie reported that he was chill and easy to talk to. Picture time!

Attalyn's older sister forced them to do this "classic" prom pose. It was awkward for everyone! But a rite of passage.

Annie's hair gave me Elven Princess vibes.
What color would you say Annie's dress was? Red? It was UT Longhorn orange. But it definitely looked red in all the pictures.

Annie made boutonnieres for Corban and Kimball. She was a boutonniere making machine. We all learned how to spell the word boutonniere. It's a weird word.

The week after prom, we went on a homeschool co-op camping trip to Inks Lake State Park. The weather was gorgeous. And the mosquitoes were minimal. The facilities at the park were top notch. My only complaint was an excessive fire ant population.

There were wildflower, geese, turtles, hiking, cliff-jumping, dogs, and pillow-eating squirrels. We got Scotty Kan Jam for his birthday and gave it to him a few days early so he could use it on the trip. It was good for the sporty and non-sporty alike. I love that we've been able to homeschool. I love seeing all ages mixing together and bonding and helping each other and having fun. And we were able to go in the middle of the week, so we had the place to ourselves. Well, us and the retirees.

Scotty turned 14 this year! Here are Scotty's thoughts about mortal life thus far: "I'm pretty tall nowadays. Me and Annie just did Guild where we played the piano for a judge. And we're going to get a score, but it's not a competition or anything. But you can see how well you did. I felt pretty good about it. I got braces now. Currently, they are hot pink, but the hot pink isn't very noticeable. 14 is the same as 13 except that I'm feeling a little older, and everybody else is feeling a little younger."

Scotty was 5'7 1/2" last month when we measured him. This month he is 5'8". The food is flying out of our cupboards. Annie and I have been commenting to Scotty that he is going to a really good, responsible dad. He sometimes takes out the garbage and unloads the dishwasher without being asked. He always gets his stuff ready the night before. And he reminds us of the things we need to get ready. He's very responsible with getting his schoolwork done. And he is super smart. And a total shuai ge!

Our middle school co-op group studied Shakespeare this semester. They studied A Midsummer Night's Dream. Scotty curled up on the couch with my Total Works of Shakespeare from my college days and read the play by himself. Doing me proud. The kids also put on a little scene from the play. Good thing he was William Shakespeare for Faces of History at Classical Conversations a few years ago. We already had the costume ready. Charlie also made his doggy debut.
